Amy Klobuchar’s Super Tuesday eve drop out leaves outcome a mystery

The departure of Pete Buttigieg yesterday had people wondering who would absorb Pete’s voters on Super Tuesday (answer: everyone else) but this morning’s withdrawal of Amy Klobuchar adds an interesting new question. Who will Minnesota now? Two recent polls showed her eking past Bernie Sanders with close to 25% or more of the vote with Bernie right behind her at 20% or so. Current press reports are that Klobuchar will endorse Biden. Does that automatically translate her votes to Biden? He sure would need them as his current standing in the state is below 15%. At one time, as far back as June and as recent as November, Warren was leading Minnesota. Right now she is at a solid third, with between 11–16% of the MN vote. Might people fall back behind her? Or will Klobuchar’s endorsement of Biden be compelling enough to sway most of her voters to him, adding to his 8–9% and giving him the win? Anything is possible.

One thing I forgot to say — people have been voting in Minnesota for 45 days now. While I don’t have the most recent numbers, reports had indicated that thousands of Minnesotans, especially Democrats had been voting early. Whether there are enough votes outstanding to make a difference is yet to be seen. One thing is certain — Minnesota is one more state that will make Super Tuesday very interesting to watch play out. As if there was not enough already.
